There is as much fiction here as in all the rest of baby boy Shapiro's writings. I guess the biggest farce is that Palin could muster up enough intelligence to ever run this country. |

Ben Shapiros column is brillant. I am taping it to my refrigerator and marking off each thing that comes true over the next four years. It should be interesting to see how much actually happens. Sarah Palin is a remarkable woman, Bill. She is smart, tough, beautiful and a conservative. Just like me! At least she isn't pumped full of Botox like Nancy Pelosi.

Let's think about the "house" he's is moving into for the first 4 years....
President-Elect Obama has his work cut out for him not because of what he has done but because what the previous tenant has left for him to do. B.S. (good initials for him) may write about what he believes the future will hold but not the shape of the house as it is today. This attempt to continue the "fear" in the minds of those that are weak is sad.

Lowering expectations?
|
Don't start lowering our expectations for Obama. It is not going to work. Had he been President on 9/11 he would have handled everything perfectly and the world would be a happy place. So I expect, as I was told, that he will be able to handle the current situation. Sure hope he does it by 2010 or he may lose some of his rubber stamps in the house and senate and have an approval rating even lower than congress.

Robert, sounds like you are a native East Texan so I will not try to debate you on "what if". I do not expect President Elect Obama to receive your congratulation and would have been surprised if you had. President Elect Obama has been given the keys to a "house" most jealously esteemed in this neighborhood of countries that in the last 8 years has been plagued by financial problems, lack of care to those living in the "house" and the picket fence of defense with serious gaps from fighting in the neighborhood. We elected him because we need a change. We will hold him to that promise to improve this country within the neighborhood and we will use our vote in four years to let him know what we think of his efforts just like we did on this current office holder. During this historic moment there will those who will not see the fullness of time due to shortsighted lens

Oops, Kevin. Barack is already blowing it. As soon as I sent my previous message I find out the stock market took it's biggest post-election hit in history. Okay, I am subtracting another two points. Second day in a row the market has plunged since Obama's election. One point for the fall and one for not preventing it after the prior days warning. I should probably subtract further since he remained so cool during the credit crisis and yet he coolness did not fix anything. Maybe tomorrow.

Hey Robert, did you give President-Elect Obama the credit when the stock market was rising? LOL You are too easy to read. I, for one appreciate your honesty. You don't sugar coat your disdain under the guise of religion. So the President-Elect has lost some points since he has been told he will occupy the White House? Oh, well I guess he will just have to work that much harder. As I said once before, his stewardship will not be the same as the current office holder or those before only because as most minorities know, he has to out-perform all others only to be accepted. But that is okay. Minority parents can now use his character, his drive and determination as a model for their children. No child can use the excuse, "They don't like me" to justify their failures or their reason to quit. So your comments are appreciative as an example to our children. Now how does that go? "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive." A great story about the mysteries of God.

Robert Do not congratulate me; it was the American people that made the (correct) choice in electing Obama. As for Democrats supporting Bush: Unfortunately, they did do that and as a result got us into a needless war that is bankrupting the country. I would hope and expect that you would speak out against policies you do not believe in regardless of who is president. It is not about partisan politics but about our country and a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. We face challenging times ahead. I am confident that Obama is going to do the best he can. McCain also would have done his best. Both men care about the country.
The above quote was an email I received from my distant cousin in Norway. Obama's election has elevated us in the eyes of the world. As Americans, we should all be proud of what was accomplished on November 4, 2008. Bill Pelland Murchison, TX PS - Heidi In your self description you forgot to mention Humble (LOL)

Mr. Morris - We'll have to wait and see what Obama is able to accomplish. Bush initially ran as a cross-party uniter. He never lived up to that goal. Obama is in a similiar situation; he will have a powerful (not all powerful) majority in both houses. His goal then will be to implement his agenda and not the agenda of the extreme left. He will have to unite the nation; that was his main purpose. Perhaps you'll come to appreciate the Presidential qualities Obama possesses; perhaps not. I wish you luck. Bill Pelland

Re: No Congratulations

Hi Bill! I guess my "I.T. timeout" is up, I'm finally able to post after running into problems for almost 2 weeks now. As an American, I believe it's our duty to support our President. Regardless of the countless attacks on President Bush by CNN, MSNBC, CBS and basically most of the MSM, I seriously doubt you'll see that from anyone when Obama makes his mistakes, which he will (we're all human). It doesn't mean that I or anyone else have to agree with him, but I hope that he leads from the middle, anything less will be extremely detrimental to this country. For the good of the U.S., I hope he makes good decisions. I truly hope that Obama lives up to his word. I'm not sure a large part of his voter base really heard him when he spoke of personal responsibility, acting like men instead of kids when they became fathers, and also when he said that everyone that can work will work. If he can truly encourage congress to pass laws to enforce that, and use his presidential powers to promote that, he'll gain a lot of support from the right and the middle. At the same time, I still believe he'll alienate his voters who were so caught up in all the drama that they didn't hear a word he said. Obama danced around the affirmative action issue during his campaign, but I believe that he was just being a politician, trying not to alienate anyone. I believe, from the other things he's said, that he disagrees with it. I think his wife however, clearly is in favor of affirmative action. With Nebraska voting to end affirmative action, we might be on the right track. Also with California (I take back MOST of what I've said about that place) voting to overturn the gay marriage bill speaks very loudly. The people have "spoken" on these issues, which is good to see. This it's self is proof positive that the people should vote in law, NOT the supreme court. California's supreme court (as well as all the liberal hollywood protesters) should applaud democracy, because that is what is shown with proposition 8. Meanwhile, Israel got hammered with rockets/mortars from the Gaza Strip yesterday, Syria has Lebanon's border completely surrounded with tanks, Al Qaeda is preparing for a "new front" in the Horn of Africa (Djibouti) and Iran continues chugging along with their nuclear aspirations. And of course, Iraq, Georgia and Afghanistan are all going on right now. I do hope that everyone knows that the president's first responsibilities are national defense and foreign policy. His plate will be full, like nobody has ever seen. I would be lying if I didn't have serious concerns over his abilities to lead U.S. forces and keep our allies safe. I pray that he can handle it.

Robert - It is good to hear from you. I do believe that as much as possible, Obama will govern from the center. I am watching with interest as he moves into transition mode. I wrote many times about his call to fathers and parents to step up to the plate. As people were calling him a socialist and calling his programs welfare, I was hearing words calling on Americans to be responsible and heard him calling for opportunity to work for dreams, not have dreams just handed out on a silver platter. There is no doubt in my mind that Obama will make mistakes. I too fear an out of control congress but am encouraged with Obama's choice of Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff. Others in this forum have taken a different approach and have vowed to point out every (percieved) fault they can find with Obama. I think this is unfortunate but accept it as the way it is. Brent Scowcroft, Bush's (H.W.) national security advisor, had advised against the war in Iraq. He was on Fareed Zakaria's show today. It was most interesting interview. I voted for Bush in 2000, realizing he was inexperienced, but believing that Cheney would be there to help out. Bush turned out to be a disappointment and America is now paying the price for poor deciscions made not only by his administration but also by congress who fell down on the job. Both Democrats and Republicans are to blame for the position we now find ourselves in. I am hopeful that Obama will learn from mistakes of previous presidents and will govern from the center. If he is able to truly cross party lines and bring the country together, I think he will do well. The greater the challenges the nation provides, the greater the opportunity for a new President to excel. I do not believe Obama will let me down. Time will tell. Bill Pelland

I am patriotic enough to not want the United States taken over by socialism which is a proven failure everywhere it is tried. I could go on and on as you know. All my words and about half of the rest of the countries' (double check your math on that 2/3 you arrived at) are a waste of time. Dear Heidi, I have this mental picture of you returning to your refridgerator daily for the next four years, valiantly trying to fit something that may happen in the future into the categories of "predictions" that Mr. Shapiro imagined. It saddens me that you will be putting your energies into such a negative activity. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem. So by all means, waste your energies and obvious talent to inspire a response from others in a sad, fruitless pursuit. I really hope you are smarter than that. Like it or not, your point of view is now in the minority, and I suggest that perhaps you might want to consider why that is? It is because there are now more people inspired by HOPE than by FEAR. LOL!!!!! Give it a rest, Heidi, why are you ALWAYS looking for a fight? I found your response unneccessarily defensive, especially since I gave you a compliment.... You have the ablility to express yourself in such a way that you elicit response from others. That gift, used well, can get your point across a lot better than all the nastiness that has been spewed. Heidi, in your response to me you made good point about being supportive yet watchful, and then you ruined your point by accusing me of being "snotty". It isn't being snotty to point out that the old way isn't working and perhaps you and fellow republicans should really take a stab a figuring out how YOU need to change, because the rest of the country has already changed and passed you by. I think you are smart, and i would hope that you are never so frustrated that you would resort to that refrigerator trip daily. Good luck, Heidi, I hope the next 4-8 years are not as painful for you as you have imagined. Basically, the EITC pays people who do NOT pay income tax with a tax credit to bring them above the poverty level. Well, he can't do any worst than the current office holder. In fact I recall you still blamed President Clinton on the current office holder's failure so I guess you will use that same logic this time around. (Probably not huh?) For America, this is a great moment in our history. Regardless of the outcome America proved that all citizens can aspire for higher goals, as I said before, if he gets in there and sleeps on the job like the current office holder, he will not get elected again. I heard a woman scream at the top of her voice, "God Bless America" the night of the election. She finally understood that this was her country regardless of the hatred some show toward her. Hate all you want but the poor, the minorities, the disenfranchised and many others that are discriminated against on a daily basis know, "This land is your land, this land is my land" Sing along with me America! ( In case you're wondering, I'm shaking my fist as I type this.) Look folks...the only change that's surely coming will be the looks on all the hopeful faces of BO supporters when they realize that he is NOT the 2nd coming of Christ, he can't make good on his promises and they are no pots of gold at the end of the rainbow. Wow I can post again, I think I was going through withdrawals! Anyway, maybe President-elect Obama will get through his 4 years without his teleprompter going down causing him to uhm and ahh his way through a speech! I do hope he does a good job but I do predict a single term for him if he goes through with his campaign promises such as amnesty for all illegal aliens, going up on corporate taxes, unrestricted abortions, etc. I hope and pray nothing happens to him because I would positively dread "Football Joe the gaffe master" Biden becoming our President. That would be a disaster. Bill Pelland seems to care a great deal of how the world thinks of us. I suspect world opinion would take a nose dive with a President Biden at the helm. By the way, no bitterness here, this has happened twice now in my lifetime with President Carter and President Clinton both sweeping into office after moderate Republican Presidents. I look for a true conservative candidate to step forward and bring America back on course as President Reagan did.

Heidi Some of us progressed beyond our parents politics particularly when they did not match the body count in VietNam or the impeachment of Nixon, death of Martin, and Bobby. I listen to my parents rant about communism in the civil rights movement while watching women and children being bitten by police dogs on the evening news for marching in Birmingham. I watched as red faced redneck cops beat protesters that sat down and linked arms. I watched just like all good middle class white children did but something just didn't add up. At that moment I decided to seek the truth even if it hurt. Challenge the status quo even if it set me apart and limited my circle of friends to other seekers of truth. I wanted to trust other Americans regardless of color, or religious preference and I will continue to make that choice because it makes me free of fear. Shanon, I never was pressured by my parents to vote the way they did. My parents told my siblings and I that we should investigate and think the issues through and make our own decisions. That is why I chose to be an independent so I can vote for any candidate who is closest to my own beliefs. I vote for candidates who will take my calls and emails and listen to what I have to say. I would say you, Heidi and I are close to the same age as I also remember the riots, the hippie movement, President Nixon, the civil rights marches, the assassinations, and the long gas lines, etc. I myself was bused from the suburbs of Denver to a mostly black downtown school in Denver even though I was only 3 blocks from the school I was attending previously. I guess what I'm saying is, I will support President Obama as long as he doesn't try to take away a lot of my rights and benefits as an American citizen as described in my previous post. Heidi, I also look forward to Governor Jindal stepping out in a leadership role. I like what I see in Louisiana and what he is accomplishing there.

Shannon, your words about the past were true but to some people they cannot accept the fact. As Pete so eloquently stated, many parents did not force their children to see the world through their eyes but their perception are closely matched. When someone is unwillingly bus from their neighborhood to a different school only in the name of integration they have a different outlook from the child who is bus willingly. Therefore you will never get that person to fully appreciate the conception of diversity and what it means. All they know is the lack of choice in the matter. What they fail to realize is many minority children on the other side were bus into some times hostile environments with teachers who were force by law to give them an education also felt the same way. That is why even now there are many people unsympathetic to diversity because no matter how many laws are on the books, it all depends on your perception not on your color.

Not all of us white race can be blamed for what happend when slavery or segregation things happened. I was born in 68 ,but I can tell you we are still being blamed for our ancestors, and what they did. Last time I looked there was more then one race in America.I have never seen a place in my life, that uses the race card so much as America does. This paragraph I have in bold is what the race word means. The word racist can come from more than one race of people. It is a TWO WAY STREET not a one way. This came off the page of the EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY OFFICE WEB PAGE The U.S. Government currently recognizes five minimum race categories: American Indian or Alaska Native; Asian; Black or African American; Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; and White. Hispanic/Latino origin is characterized by the government as an ethnicity, because people of Hispanic or Latino origin can be of any race.

Heidi, Sounds like I tossed a shoe out there and you decided to put it on. Me thinks thou protest to much. The old hate and fear should die with the previous generation. They did some great things but perpetuating racism is not of them. The youth of the country spoke loud and clear in this election and message is clear, Divided We Fail. I really hope you can get on board the Change train and embrace the excitement we are feeling.

The youth of America mostly proved what a failure public education has become. The process of electing a President has turned into nothing more than a season of American Idol.

You got that right. I'm waiting for Simon, Paula and Randy to have a group hug on stage! The youth are not fully aware of what is at stake. I know. I was a young college Republican and I thought I knew it all because I read a lot of papers and books. I had no job experience or tax experience. Nothing beats life experience when placing your vote.

Spoken like a true Jeffersonian. Everyone should be able to vote as long as they are educated, monied, male and white. Isn't that how we got "W". Heidi you keep right on trying to sell that bill of goods. You may even find some buyers in the academic black hole of E. Texas. but it won't wash with the 60% of America that's on the change train with me.

Shannon, your words are a refreshing sight on here. It is hard for this area to change in many ways. It will take independent thinkers to challenge status quo. I can see the frustration in their words as some try to belittle you but hang in there. Remember you may not change their way of thinking but someone on here may just see through their faulty words. America has a new president. Through the process that our fore-fathers developed he came so there is no doupt as to the legitimacy of his office. Will he complete all of his promises? Time will tell and we will in four years let him know how we feel about his term in office. Don't worry about the detractors, remember we had that dubious title the last eight years....*SMILE* These are people who pinned themselves with the American Flag and tagged their cars with "God Bless America" while the multitude of Americans quietly showed their patriotism through their daily living. Now they feel betrayed by the people who voted for change and I would believe some may feel betrayed by God; not fully understanding His ways are not ours. I am impress by those who do not allow the "name-callers" to deter them. Stay the course.

Shanon, You stated:
I gather you don't think much of the thinking and discerning abilities of East Texans. Is this something you can prove or your just trying to demean all of us? It sounds like you’re not happy here. If you’re so much more intelligent and bright than the rest of us, maybe your light should shine elsewhere. I will submit to you that just because President-elect Obama was elected as President doesn't mean he is the man for the job. This remains to be seen. We have had several Presidents who didn't live up to standards. A few of examples would be Carter, Johnson, and Grant. They all were elected and very popular at first but the case can certainly be made they lacked the skills to lead effectively.

It is amazing that you left out our current President Bush. He is likely to be remembered as the Hoover of the 21st century depression. Side Note to Shannon: I agree with Kevin. You're speaking the truth in your writings. Keep up the good work. I would hope those of you who oppose Obama because your guy lost and Obama won would relax some and give Obama a chance to show you what he can do. You may not agree with his ideas and you may think we on this side did nothing but bash Bush. You forget that Bush had the support of the American people, especially after 9-11. It was his to lose. Probably his biggest failure was the way he handled Katrina although the war was a biggie also. He suffered from poor choices and poor advisors. I do believe Obama is careful in who he picks as advisors and will do a good job in restoring this country's economy and our standing in the world. Bill Pelland

Bill, please. Are you serious? His to lose? Why are you and so many other Dems so willing to put the blame on one man. This country failed as a whole by not supporting the war completely. Not just me or the Republicans. You failed too. Your elected Congress failed miserably. You gave up like millions of Dems because this war got ugly. It has lasted a long time and you got bored with it. I doubt that any part of your life has been disrupted by this war. Don't be so small minded. You are way better than that. New Orleans failed its citizens. Not Bush. The mayor, the city council members etc failed. Not this government. Not the Red Cross or the millions of Americans that gave money - me included. The citizens of New Orleans failed themselves. For me Obama is an embarrassment and I don't deserve him as my President because I didn't vote for him. I am not ready for him to "rule from day one" as his transition team said last Sunday on Meet The Press. Yep, I'm mad and frustrated witht the current situation. It is going to get worse and Obama will be leading the way.

LOL Heidi, you are at least entertaining if not bitter. Okay, so you didn't vote for him and now you believe that he doesn't represent you? If that is the case, then do you believe the current office holder doesn't represent those who didn't vote for him? Then should any President be called the leader of this country because not everyone voted for one particular President. Using your logic, no public official should feel obligated to serve the masses because not everyone voted for him. Maybe that's what is wrong with our school system and court system. You may be on to something Heidi, but if you believe that way then why are you bitter? Your words, not mine. You complain that the big bad Dems blames one man and without any thought to your logic, you blame the President-Elect for what is happening before he takes office! Yes, everyone know you are mad and frustrated because you have always claim your patriotism for our country and now....What? LOL Don't worry, I fully understand. Although I did give the current office holder every chance to earn my respect and felt betrayed by his handling of the Iraq War, I am still one hundred percent American and he was my President although begrudgingly.

Agreeing fully with Kevin, you are entertaining, hopefully by now Heidi, you've come down from your soapbox. It seems you're so worked up, you've forgotten the facts. By "New Orleans failed its citizens," don't you mean the levees? No one failed anyone, it was God's work. "The mayor, the city council etc," did you forget that Katrina was a Natural Disaster? You know what that is? That means everyone down there gets caught in it regardless. I would like to know if things were switched around and circumstances made it impossible for you to get out before the storm, would you still talk this way? Of course not! Its always people looking from the outside looking in that are so quick to criticize. You happen to be the only one I know (reading from your rant) who thinks they can have everything their way. Sorry, you're in for many disappointments. If you're so adamant about whose your President which IS the decision of the entire country, then go live in Canada or someplace and don't worry about it. Sounds like this was written just for you: GOD, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference. Anyone who talks like you just makes themselves look bad honestly. Just "I, I, I" with you. You may not be ready for Obama to rule, but the Country IS. Do yourslef a favor and get over yourself, please.

Heidi writes:
First of all Heidi, I was against the invasion of Iraq. I did not believe that the American people were getting the straight information. Other sources doubted the intel and as long as there was doubt, I felt we should not open up another front in the war on terror. I also do not approve of the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive war. It is contrary to American values. Many times in this forum I have said that Bush had poor advisors. Carter also had poor advisors and yet the Republicans blame him for a not so successful Presidency. That's just the way it is. Bush went to war and he did not want to listen to those that insisted we did not have enough troops to win the peace after we toppled Sadam. Instead he listened to Rumsfeld and others. Thus it was his (Bush's) poor judgement and like it or not the guy at the top gets the blame. As for the war getting ugly, there again it was execution and not enough troops and if you say that Obama is Commander in Chief then you also have to accept that Bush is Commander in Chief and took his eye off the ball so to speak. We finally turned that war around with the surge but more importantly than just more troops we negotiated with the Suni Son's of Iraq. We paid them money to join our side. This turned them from combatants to allies that helped insure surges success. This is in noway a reflection on our troops. They do a great job. Now like it our not Heidi, when it comes to failed policies, the Republicans had control of congress for 6 of the 8 years of the Bush administration and enough votes to deadlock congress in the other two years. Therefore, when it comes to failures the buck squarely lands on the desk in the oval office. Just the way it is. Now in two years you should have enough data to point out any or all of Obama's mistakes. There will also be things he succeeds at I'm sure. My suggestion to you is to calm down, sit back, and give the man a chance. You may find that the deciscion you made when you were young (and admittedly inexperienced) to become a Republican was the wrong one. Still love ya like a sister of a different father or mother or whatever. Bill Pelland

Heidi, It is not the wearing of the American Flag that I protest, since I also have one on my vest but the fact people with your mindset believes anyone not wearing the pin are somehow unpatriotric! the answer to that is not. You are bitter (your words) that our next president is President Elect Obama and you write as someone who have lost some shine on their patriotism. Just my opinion. I find that amusing. On the one hand you blast liberals, minorities and anyone who does not think like you as being unpatriotic and in the same breathe when describing your thoughts about the next president, you carry the banner you claim we wave! Now you know how we feel about the current office holder but at least some of us waited until we saw what type of leader he would be. The current office holder was American's Idol and now he has lost that shine.

Shannon, How do you get to this statement from what Heidi said? Is it a reading comprehension problem? You have a lot of anger. Where will you direct it once you don't have Bush in office? Is monied a word? Shouldn't there be a question mark after the last sentence in your quote above? If you are prone to mistakes, you may have accidentally voted for McCain. Thank you for your support.

Now Heidi, tell me it ain't so. You were a young REPUBLICAN before you understood tax policy. No experience with jobs or taxes and yet you chose to be a Republican. Now I ask you a simple question! If you were absolutely sure that there would never be another abortion in this country and you were absolutely sure that no restrictive gun laws would ever be passed - Then would you please tell me what the Repulicans have to offer you? Again I ask you a second question which I have asked before and never received an answer to: What do you think the role of government should be? You shout out against Obama and yet he hasn't even taken office. Bush had the support of the majority of the American people and only lost it due to the incompetance of his advisors (Rumsfeld, Brown, etc) and due to his own inability to lead. Now Paulson seems to be the latest incompetant one. Today Paulson said he did not implement the plan they asked congress to approve as they realized it would not work. Instead they spent 350 billion dollars on something else; buying up shares of banks that then are using the money to buy other banks maybe? While it is not apparent that the Obama Presidency will succeed or fail, it is obvious that the current administration has been one of the worst in the history of the country. Still, you talk as though we made a poor choice. I agree with you. In 2000 and again in 2004 the American people made a poor choice and now the country is paying for it with an economy that has not been in this much danger since the great depression. The choice in 2008 came down to following two previous bad choices with a third or doing what we did; We elected a intelligent leader with the ability to bring this country together. Perhaps, if you stop and wait you will be able to see that the choice was correct. I hope so. Bill Pelland
