The people who serve our country whether in the military, in the political arena or volunteering at the local school do so because they have an innate calling to do what they believe is best for this country. Even those you say you saw dying did not do so to earn someone’s respect but because they believed in their cause. I may not believe in everything you say but I respect your right to say it. Did you earn that? No. As my poor little broken down dictionary describes respect as, “To feel or show deferential regard for: esteem. To avoid violation of or interference with. To relate to: concern. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation.” The respect someone “earns” from you is not their doing but your reaction and attitude toward them.

Talk about disrepecting people? Between you and Jando I have taken a beating because I don't have compassion for a dying, alcoholic murderer. IN MY OPINION only Ted Kennedy didn't have an innate calling to do what was right. Doing the right thing for Teddy would be as refreshing as a splash in the face with the water from the Chappaquiddick river.

Don't pretend to know the person that passed away like I knew him. You are treading in deep water. You couldn't possibly understand.

As for respect, I have tons of it - just not for Mr. Kennedy.

Heidi, it is not disrespectful to disagree with you that is part of being an American. It is good to express yourself but you should be aware there maybe some who may not agree with you or me.

If you say the things you said about Senator Kennedy, you should be aware there could be someone who respects Senator Kennedy and they may not appreciate your statement. We have the right to express ourselves but we can’t yell, “fire” in a movie theater. As I said, I respect your right to express yourself but I do not have to agree. In fact the things I could say about the current President would probably stir up the same reaction in you!
