Sometimes I wonder about the soul of our nation when I hear someone say they can't find any compassion for a person. Most of the time these people are self-professed religious followers whose credence includes love for your enemies.

There is an unvoiced canon among soldiers fighting in war situations that when your enemy has surrendered, he no longer becomes yours to kill but to keep until the war is over. During that time, compassion is shown to your captive to heal his wound, feed and shelter him until his release. It is the reason for the Geneva treatise.

Regardless of your political affirmation (which in the scheme of things is less important than many realize) Senator Kennedy was a servant to our nation as Senator Byrd or any other political person who dedicate their life to help this country grow.

Hypocrisy has many avenues and we must all guard against the road we take.

I�ve seen honorable men die. Men who earned my respect in the way they lived their lives and often in how they died. Not because they suddenly are found to be ill after a life spent at tearing down the traditional and moral fibers of this country. Not to mention the tragedies he has bestowed on innocent people and with no known remorse for those actions.

You have your opinion and I have mine. I�ll it let go at that.

The people who serve our country whether in the military, in the political arena or volunteering at the local school do so because they have an innate calling to do what they believe is best for this country. Even those you say you saw dying did not do so to earn someone�s respect but because they believed in their cause. I may not believe in everything you say but I respect your right to say it. Did you earn that? No. As my poor little broken down dictionary describes respect as, �To feel or show deferential regard for: esteem. To avoid violation of or interference with. To relate to: concern. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation.� The respect someone �earns� from you is not their doing but your reaction and attitude toward them.

Heidi - In the past I've defended your right to be you and to have your opinion as I have a right to mine. You still have that right but I want to weigh in and say I find it offensive.

Remember what we all agreed to in order to become a registered user of this site? Can everyone honestly say they are following those rules?

Thats almost impossible because everyone finds something offensive... Heck someone could find this sentence offensive. Am i breaking the rule? No. Remember the editors read all comments before they are posted. If they are unworthy then they are not posted
