Why would anyone believe that if we do away with Income Tax that the stores would automatically lower the prices on the shelves? That is just not reality.
And why 23 cents? I researched the 1/2 cent sales tax in the City of Tyler a couple of years ago. According to their website, they received $10 million dollars the in the previous year with just the 1/2 cent sales tax. I would assume that this is only on the sales within the City of Tyler. If that is the case, then why do the greedy politicians need a 23 cent sales tax on all of the sales in the UNITED STATES?

Actually the 23$ is inclusive meaning 1.00 paid 23 cents is tax but in reality it is a 30 % tax and it does not exclude anything; food, medicine, govertment services would all be taxed.

Bill,
You have once again missed the boat. The CURRENT system doesn't exclude anything. In what industry does the employer or employees not pay personal taxes? The tax they pay is EMBEDDED in the price. Why should the fairtax exclude anything. I would like to suggest for the fairtax opponents that we require all product prices, on the receipt, to show what portion of the price goes to corporate tax, payroll tax, personal income tax etc. That way when a consumer looks at a receipt they can see where the money is going... ie to the government. We can then compare the fairtax and the current system. Most opponents would reject that suggestion as being overly burdensome to producers... the current system is overly burdensome to everyone.
