Hiedi,

If Toby Taxpayer and his wife are raising two kids and all Toby can make is $538 a week at his $13/hr job, they will have a very hard time eating properly, dressing, and paying for shelter. They are by definition living in poverty. Currently, they are paying at least $40 per week (7.5% of every dime Toby makes) in payroll taxes. They also pay around $80 - $100 per week (somewhere between 15%-22% of what they spend) as hidden embedded taxes and compliance costs directly related to our present tax code.

If you think it is appropriate to make it that much harder for them to live by confiscating $120 - $140 a week from them for the federal coffers to be mispent by politicians, than I think we can agree to disagree.
