Bill,
Every time we spend one of our hard earned dollars, which has already been taxed, we are at least double taxed. If we spend it on a service we help pay the taxes of the entity performing that service. That is at least double taxation. Every product we purchase results in at least triple taxation. If we purchase a loaf of bread we help pay the taxes of every company involved in producing and supplying that loaf of bread; (the grocer, the distributor, the farmer the manufacture of farm equipment, the fertilizer companies, the seed companies, the bakery the manufacture of the bakery’s equipment, the power companies, the oil companies, trucking companies) There are probably a hundred or more companies involved in the production of a loaf of bread, and we help pay the taxes for all of them. (The company supplying the wrapper, the company making the twist-ties, the company who prints the wrappers, the company who supplies the ink for the printer.) The list goes on and on. Can you now see why embedded taxes and compliance cost represent at least 22% of the retail price of almost everything we buy?

Steve - You paid payroll tax on the savings and investments you now rely on in retirement as you earned it. Now with the fair tax, you will pay for Social Security again as part of the 30% NATIONAL SALES TAX.
