The bottom line is this; if we must pay taxes a consumption tax is the fairest way. It includes everyone and there is no double or triple taxation as there is under our current system. The FairTax is designed to be revenue neutral. If the rate needs to be 50% at least we know the cost of government. The more transparent the rate the better chance we have to curb government spending. If Congress tries to increase the rate, all those who vote for the increase will not be in office next term. All opponents of the FairTax need to wake up. This is why so many in Washington are against the FairTax. The FairTax will limit their power. As it is, taxes can be increased without the average American’s knowledge.

Amen.

Walt - I know we double tax corporate dividends but you refer to double and triple taxation and I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Nobody likes taxes and all complain. Various parts of the code are unjust or unfair does point out that some lobbyist somewhere has negatively brought about undesired tax laws.

Still, completely scraping the system to implement another system doesn't seem like the prudent thing to do. The FAIR TAX is not the answer. I have written extensively about this and will not write more arguements now. It's just a bad idea and needs to be studied a lot more before implementation.

Bill,

Numerous top economists have spent thousands of hours and millions of dollars in developing the FairTax system. How long do you think we need to study? There will never be a perfect tax system, but the FairTax is 1000 times better than our current system. Our current system is a cancer that is killing our economy. If we waited until a perfect cure for cancer had been developed, we would still be waiting and millions of cancer survivors would no longer be with us.
