How come all of the paper's op ed columnists are on the conservative side of the political spectrum? Where are the moderates or liberals? Give the people different perspectives on the issues. Please.

I agree with Simuel Washington. Thankfully, we have this forum to discuss more moderate ideas and point out problems facing this nation. I commend this newspaper for allowing different views to be expressed here.

From 1994 to 2006 the Republicans have had control of congress. As years progressed congress moved further and further to the 'Right' side of the Republican party. Even since 2006, the Democrats have not had the 60 Senators needed to insure passage of their programs and so Republicans still have a lot to say about what gets done. This has not served the country well.

It is important that in the upcoming election that the voters move to correct this situation, not by moving to the extreme left, but by moving both parties back towards the middle.

It is only when we have moderates in both parties that this country will be able to move forward and solve problems in education, energy, and fiscal policy.

I do agree that the editorials in the Tyler paper seem to be weighted to the right but then also realize that their editorial policies reflect the community they serve. It is up to those of us in the community that have more moderate or even opposite views to speak out.

Texas, over the years, has moved from a conservative Democrat state to a conservative independent state. The independents are the largest voting block, not the right wing of the Republican party not the extreme left wing of the Democrats. It would be nice if those independents would move to a more centrist stand.

It is time for more moderate views to be aired in the public forum and on the editorial pages of Texas newspapers.

Liberals don't last long as editors. The guilt from not paying state income tax, city income tax, not having to buy city windshield stickers to be able to park at meters, and other government acutriments tends to drive them out of state. On top of that, they don't have much of a following.

I really think that moderates are just that - "moderate". They are in the middle and can't make their minds up about much. Their ideas are luke warm with not a lot of punch.

They really should speak up though - it would make for interesting blogging. I would like to hear from them.

Simuel, if you want to read only liberal columns and editorials you should subscribe to the local rag in my area, the Palestine Herald Press. The only half-way conservative they ever publish is George Will (and him only occasionally). I think they believe that he talks so far above everyone's head that they don't have to worry about him influencing anyone. This is a conservative area even though there are a lot of Dems. but the editorial page does not reflect that. I quit taking it because they continued to publish Molly Ivins' columns. But, since you have a computer, why do you need the paper to print columns for you to read? There are all kinds of liberal websites and blogs out there.
