Post Subject: False Analogies do not make for good logic Read Article

Poor Walt Williams, trapped in a career in what has been called the dismal science. One wants to caution Mr. Williams that he should stick to economics and eschew forays into demographics, population statistics and politics.

He suggests that somehow the population of Zimbawe and Hong Kong affect the properity of the two places and are, in some way, comparable for study and analyses. Rubbish, that is false comparison! As a scientist, yes I'm being generous, as afterall, he is merely an economist, he ought to know better. Well, he ought to!

Here is a real analogy which destroys his false analogy (which so casually dismisses through omission other factors) and undermines the premise of his argument. His analogy is like my comparing my unhampered driving experience in my quiet little neighborhood to driving down South Broadway on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm.

See, no comparison. Peaches and radishes.

Of course population growth and over population affect macro and micro economies around the world.

Think not? What do you think is driving world energy and food costs? Too many seeking too little. Dang. Demand and supply. You would think even a yankee economist could figure...nevermind. You get my drift.

We all warm our hands at fires built by others and drink from wells dug by those who came before us. We have a moral obligation to keep those fires burning brightly and the wells flowing sweetly
