Heidi, Robbin, and Beth

I think the point here is that Obama is not talking welfare. He's talking about providing better educational opportunities and by the way is willing to look at alternative schools.

He is talking about job training so displaced workers can find jobs in their communities. He's talking about college help and expanding the number of soldiers and marines in the armed forces.

He's talking about helping military families who end up on public assistance while their spouses fight for this country. He's talking about getting veterans the mental help they need so they do not end up homeless or worse.

He's talking about fixing a health care system that is broke. Even businesses recognize that a more affordable health care system where all are insured would benefit them. McCain offers to tax the health insurance provided by employers to employees.

Obama wants to invest in clean energy and infrastructure thus providing jobs.

Non of these are welfare as far as I'm concerned. The SSI program, passed in 1972, was signed into law by Nixon, a republican so I do not think you can say it is just Democrats. In fact Clinton signed into law welfare reform.

SARAH PALIN
There is no doubt that Gov. Palin is a strong speaker. I would have preferred she write her own speech and express her own views and knowledge. The speech was written by McCain's handlers and Sarah practiced delivery of same for several days. Here is some of what has come out in the past few days:

1. While mayor of Wasilla, she hired a lobbyist and received about 27 million dollars worth of earmarks for a town of 7000.
2. She does not believe is Sex education
3. She wants to outlaw abortion, even in case of Rape and Incest
4. She is against stemcell research.
5. She does not believe global warming is caused by man
6. She does believe that GOD sent our troops to Iraq (I thought it was Bush the lessor)
7. McCain and Palin oppose legislation that would help women achieve pay equity.
8. McCain and Palin oppose funding to fight and prevent domestic violence.
9. The McCain-Palin ticket opposes increases to healthcare that extends insurance coverage to pregnant women. McCain also opposed $214 million for breast cancer research.
10. McCain opposed requiring insuresrs to provide the same level of coverage for birth control that they do for other prescription drugs.
11. Palin initially was for the bridge to nowhere until she discovered it to be unpopular and discovered the state of Alaska would have to pay for half of it.

Summary: Despite claims that Palin is a reformer, she is not and she definately is not a supporter of Hillary Clintons programs. If something should happen to McCain after he is elected (and he won't be) Gov Palin would not be able to handle the job.

Obama is still my choice!

Obama for President
Noriega for US Senate

You make good comments about Palin. I would just add that the "bulldog" who said no to the bridge to no where was first for the bridge to no where until it was no longer politically correct to be in favor. But she still took the money. Also, she said in her speech that those with special needs children will have an advocate in Washington. Does that mean she will veto legislation to help those with special needs children like she did as governor? Great pick McCain!

Looks like there's a few nervous folks around here... lol.

Besides all those good qualities you listed, don't forget, she's a lifetime NRA member, an avid hunter and fisher (many kudos there) and probably just got some of those 90,000,000 registered gun owner votes that BO ran away with his "fear-clinging to God and guns speech".

She's slammed and shut down abusers of the people's money. That in it's self is a quality that D.C. hasn't seen in a while. That in it's self is something that a lot of people, both democrat and republican, can get excited about. THAT is the "change" we need. And we have proof she can get it done.

With BO's extremely obvious leaning to the middle/right after he won the nomination, wouldn't you rather have someone who "sticks to thier guns"?

Personally, I think someone who stands up to current protocol and fights for change is the person(s) needed to lead this country, not someone who modifies their beliefs to save face. When the going gets really tough, I'd rather have someone in office that I have confidence will not get swayed by pressure and stick to their guns. Both JM and Palin have shown that quality continuously, BO continuously shows he'll change his song in a heartbeat.

You: "Looks like there's a few nervous folks around here... lol."
To this, nervous about what? McCain is falling behind in most every state. he leads only by 7% in his own state.

You: "Besides all those good qualities you listed, don't forget, she's a lifetime NRA member, an avid hunter and fisher (many kudos there) and probably just got some of those 90,000,000 registered gun owner votes that BO ran away with his "fear-clinging to God and guns speech".

Her NRA membership and the fact that she hunts does what in reality for anyone in this country? Everytime she shoots a moose the unemployment number goes down? I fish. Will the crappie bite better if she is VP?

You: "She's slammed and shut down abusers of the people's money. That in it's self is a quality that D.C. hasn't seen in a while. That in it's self is something that a lot of people, both democrat and republican, can get excited about. THAT is the "change" we need. And we have proof she can get it done."

Palin took the money for "the bridge to nowhere." She didn't refuse it. Palin requested $198 million in earmarks for Alaska in next year's federal budget, which includes $25 million for Coastal Salmon Recovery and $3.2 million for sea lion biological research. As a mayor, Palin hired a Washington lobbyist to secure earmarks for Wasilla, Alaska when she was mayor. The town of 6,715 received nearly $27 million in federal dollars from 2000 to 2003. That includes $1.9 million for public transit and $15 million for a rail line connecting Wasilla to the hometown of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.

You: "With BO's extremely obvious leaning to the middle/right after he won the nomination, wouldn't you rather have someone who "sticks to thier guns"?"

NO. The President of the United States represents all of America. I want him/her to stick to America's guns (the Constitution and the law). If you view America as [right-middle-left] then a President that represents middle-left represents more of America than one that represents the right only, 2-to-1.

"Personally, I think someone who stands up to current protocol and fights for change is the person(s) needed to lead this country, not someone who modifies their beliefs to save face. McCain
FLIP - “I’m not for privatizing Social Security. I never have been. I never will be.”
FLOP - “Without privatization, I don’t see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits.”

FLIP - McCain before the war in Iraq, "We will win this conflict. We will win it easily."
FLOP - Four years later, "We knew all along that the war in Iraq was probably going to be long and hard and tough."

FLIP - "It's a dangerous mistake to tell the enemy when U.S. troops would be out of Iraq."
FLOP - "Under my plan, most American troops would be home from Iraq by 2013."

FLIP - "I'm going to be honest. I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated." AND "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should."
FLOP - "I have a very strong understanding of economics."

FLIP - “I don’t think Bush's tax cut is too big, it’s just misplaced. Sixty percent of the benefits from his tax cuts go to the wealthiest 10% of Americans and that’s not the kind of tax relief that Americans need."
FLOP - When trying to get nominated, "I vow to renew Bush's tax cuts."

       RE: Silly Promises

Wow Toby... If I were to try and respond to every response you made to my post, I'd probably overload the server.

In a nutshell, since Palin is being cast as "just a former mayor of a small town", why all the smears? Why all the attacks? If she really is not a credible threat, as your party seems to think, they sure have an odd way of showing it. Could it be she just blasted (the complete truth by the way) BO?

She shut down private travel for the governorship of Alaska when she took office. Not sure of the number, but it's saved millions. She's fired many many corrupt officials. Those 2 things show character, the kind of character I personally like.

Regarding the POTUS, yes, he should stick to his guns. Since the primary responsibility of the POTUS is foreign policy, you're dang right he better not be swayed. That office has to be solid, any show of weakness (see Bill Clinton), only invites problems. No way in the world would I want a weak president. That office has to be someone who has a clear set foreign policy. I personally have no idea what BO is thinking when he says he'll "negotiate without preconditions" with terrorist nations. How many times has that been tried and proven to not work with Islamic nations? Care to count? If you'll do some research on Sharia law, (which many countries in the Arab world go by), you'll understand that there is no negotiating, only deception and lies. I'd rather not go into Islamic beliefs on this site, but all the info in the world is out there. Winston Churchill recognized it, Thomas Jefferson recognized it, Reagan and Carter both tried it and failed, and now BO seems to think he can make it work?

Now, on to the important stuff. Let me know how them crappie are biting, they should be on the 13th piling (I think) from the south end of the 155 bridge, about 18 feet down. If the wind isn't blowing too bad, seems like we used to catch them this time of year on a white/pink 1/16 oz jig on 6 lb line. If the wind is blowing, shiners. Been many years since I've fished there, but that's what I remember for August-September time frame.
