Post Subject: I would have gone back. . . Read Article

That was a sad story about that little cat in the road but, honestly, I would have turned around, gone back and picked it up. Yeah, it would have been a hassle but it would have been worth the trouble. I also would have taken it to the nearest veterinarian for medical care. Sadly enough, law enforcement doesn't care about animals. When I was coming home from KS on June 27 a car in the oncoming traffic lane outside Altoona, KS hit a dog; two dogs were in the road and one was struck. The car didn't slow down even though some front end parts broke off of it. I stopped, backed up and put the dog that wasn't hit in my car. Thankfully a man came along with a pickup and helped me get the injured dog into the next town to a vet. We managed to contact the owners who were enroute to Bartlesville, OK. As it turned out the dog had to be put down because she was too old to survive the complicated surgery to repair her broken hind legs. She also had been living with one collapsed lung unbeknownst to her owners. But, during this experience I did find out that law enforcement will not help with animals that are injured along the road. I cannot in good conscience drive past an injured animal without stopping any sooner than I would drive past an injured person without stopping. I guess it's just the way I was made.
