Pardon my French, but who in the %&*@ do you think you are Reverend Pisano? Honestly, the gall you have to make such outlandish statements and cover it up with theology. You my sir are a hypocrite. I can’t stand “people of the cloth” that get away with statements such as yours and then end it with some good ole’ scripture. It is shameful. I hope you are not anyone’s spiritual leader.

Every city in America has serious issues – Morgantown, WV is no different. You had over 109 violent crimes in 2005 alone with a population of only 28,000 people. I am sure that it has only increased since then. Mineola is handling these disgusting crimes and all of those found guilty will spend the rest of their lives in prison. It is not a reflection of East Texas as a whole.

Reverend Pisano rest assured, you are not a Stranger to East Texas just Strange. I know that there are plenty of East Texans that would welcome you into their homes and churches and say “forgive and forget” – not me. Stay put.

And to Mitzi - I moved here 20 years ago and have found Tyler to be incredibly welcoming. I do not have a famous name but have managed to build a great life here. Tyler is on the conservative side but as you can see from this website there are plenty of liberals in this area.

Rev. Pisano,

I have been a member of this community for nearly 20 years now. Unfortunally you are so right! When I first moved here, I started attending a church the same denomination as the one I left in Oklahoma. Granted it wasn't a small church like I came from, but it wasn't as large as GA either. Most everyone was on a first name basis. After becoming a member, things rolled along for several months. There was not a day that went by that if the doors were open, I was there, regardless of the function. There came a time that personal/health reasons kept me out for a couple weeks. Not ONE person bothered to call to check on me. It almost seemed like when I did return I wasn't even missed.

One day several of us ladies were preparing for a dinner gathering. Their talk was in regard to someone who had been in the same situation as these children. There was no talk of "how can we help this woman", just how dreadful but oh well. Because I have walked in those shoes, I DID HAVE A WHOLE TOWN turn the other way. I know where these children are coming from.

I was raised in a town where we never locked the doors or closed the windows. I have instilled in me the attitude of extending the hand of "Welcome". This town we live in, whether you Tylerites will admit it or not, isn't on the friendly side. I do try my best not to be one of those people. I stay here because of the fact I love the area, and the few friends I have made. So I say Rev. since we are ALL entitled to our opinion, you hit the nail on the head.

Unlike those who place non-value adjectives before “American”, please be assured Reverend Pisano that you are welcome anytime in Tyler. Please understand Tyler is not positioned as a tourist stop so people here are not geared toward customer service as you may find say in Memphis or even Dallas. We work, eat, sleep and occasionally listen to what our religious leaders preach on Sunday or whatever day of worship. The moral of this blog as you can tell by some of the response to your rant is, “Never chunk a stick at dogs barking at each other on the porch.”

...this is not an inference toward anyone!

I wouldn't say 'plenty'. You can see that there are only 3 or 4 on this site.
While I agree with the Rev that Christians can be hypocritical, I wouldn't say it's exclusive to Christians or East Texas Christians. It's human nature. But I suppose it may be human nature to believe in comforting myths like Christianity as well.

Carla -

So THE WHOLE TOWN TURNED AWAY? I think you are a bit dramatic on that point. You had a bad experience at your church. It happens. Move on.

I did in my situation and didn't hold it against the church membership.
