Phyllis,
I do agree as with anything in life there are people who abuse the system. But in response to the definition of qualifying for a handicap placard-not so fast. There are many reasons why a physicin makes those judgments and not our general population. As a nurse, I know many exist that you do not see. Someone may have severe respiratory issues and parking far away in a parking lot would lead to acute respiratory distress or an asthma attack(requires inhaler). There are people with pain pumps(assistive devices) under their clothes that help them tolerate even a short walk. There are many people with pacemakers also. Get the picture? Don't be so quick to assume the physicians don't have a valid reason for approving the patient for the upclose parking.
