I completely disagree with Mr. Colbert's comments. Congressman Gohmer absolutely is right on this issue. President Bush has no choice but to go to OPEC and seek more production because the Democrats in our own country will not allow further development of our own oil resources. They will not allow further drilling by US companies off our coasts or in Alaska. They will not allow the construction of new refineries which is the biggest short term problem. South Dakota authorized the construction of the first refinery in the US in the last 30 years this week. We are supposed to be the biggest protector of free markets, but we are having to fight this battle with both arms tied behind our back. In the meantime, the Democrats are attacking the oil companies because they have limited supply and more demand than their refineries can meet. As a result, prices go up. They will continue to go up untiil demand goes down or supply goes up. However, the Democrats are not trying to address either. Instead, they choose to attack companies who serve as a strong pillare of our economy. They do it solely for political advantage in the upcoming election and it may work. Maybe after the election, they will turn to finding a real solution.
