Hon. Louie Gohmert, I am saddened to see your partisan propaganda blaming high gas prices on "the Democrats." Your one-sided presentation of the reasons for high gas prices does a dishonor to the straight-talker image that you have previously portrayed. Your actions are Nixon politics 101, day 1: "making them afraid of it, and telling them who's to blame for it." If simply drilling for more oil in the U.S. is the answer, then why does Pres. "Oil Man" Bush keep begging OPEC to sell us more of their oil? We've seen plenty of local oil and gas activity in East Texas now that prices make exploration and production economically feasibly.

When you're blaming "the Democrats", I believe the responsible, statesman-like thing to do would be to mention the costs and consequences of simply drilling for more oil in the U.S. And, this simple solution does nothing to address the ultimate problem of 40 years of talk and no solution to the U.S.'s lack of a sustainable energy policy. The fact that your top two campaign donors are TXU Energy Co and Newfield Exploration Co along with the more than 20% share of your campaign financing from P.A.C.'s leaves me to wonder whose interest you are truly representing. Your vote against Vote 40: H R 6 in January 2007 and your vote for the Bush tax cuts indicate that you care more about special interests than the hard working middle class residents of the 1st District of Texas.

Incidentally, I voted for you to serve as my Congressman because I believed you would act in the best interest of the 1st District of Texas. Please don't sacrifice our trust and your integrity by further succumbing to "politics as usual".
