Our founding fathers who wrote the Constitution of the United States took everything into consideration when they paved the way for the judicial process in this country.
Everybody has rights regardless of what crime you commit. These are the Miranda rights. The judicial system is an adversarial system and the lawyers on both sides of the aisle are charged with upholding the highest standards of the judicial process.
Everybody has the right to counsel and it is the responsibility of the defense attorney to challenge each piece of evidence against their client and force the prosecution to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that their client is guilty of the charges against them.
While it is true that 98% of the people brought to trial are guilty of the charges against them, there is still that 2% that are not guilty. Technology and Science has gotten better at reducing that 2% to 0. You can not blame the defense attorney for defending their client. If they do not vigorously defend their client, the client can appeal on the grounds that they were not represented adequatly and the court can order a mistrial and then we do the thing all over again. So don't blame the defense attorneys for doing their job. I would rather see a guilty man walk free than see an innocent man sent to jail for a crime he did not commit.

Dear Ms. Mary Voiles,
I am the daughter of a criminal defense attorney here in Tyler, Texas and I am 14 years old. I was very offended by what you said. I really don’t understand why you would even wish poorly for our family or any other family of a criminal defense attorney. I understand you do not understand what my father does. My father defends the Constitution of the United States of America, which states that any person who is accused of a crime has the right to an attorney. It also states that you are innocent until proven guilty. Secondly, if the prosecutors do not do their jobs properly they can be the ones letting the criminals run loose. If you read more instead of watching sitcoms which are FICTION you would know more about this subject. In conclusion, before you state that you would wish poorly on anyone you might need to brush up on the subject on which you are stating.
Thanks, Temple Mims
