you, sir, are truly amusing. The language that is the common tongue in this country isn't *English* but rather a hybridization – a hodge-podge – of several different languages.
that town up in West Texas that tends to get a lot of snow each winter and that's named after a color? What you do when you're asked to give an answer to a formal invitation? The city in South Texas that's known for the Riverwalk? That white disc of bread you wrap around your eggs to make a one-handed breakfast sandwich? Or the tangy sauce that you add to it to spice it up a bit?
rail all you want about bilingual messages, but I think you're throwing the baby out with the bath water – it's not about "catering" to an uneducated segment of society, but doing your best to make sure communication goes smoothly. After all, isn't that what a successful society is about?
before you fly off the handle, you really ought to make sure that the English is unadulterated – no redneck colloquialisms, no borrowing from other languages, but good old-fashioned Queen's English, which ought to be the true standard.

Jo:
I don't really care what you want to call our *english*. Putting your poor attempt at humor aside, if you are living here, working here, eating here, buying here, going to school here, receiving medical treatment here please have the common courtesy to speak *english*.
We are no longer the "melting pot" of the world. We are being overrun with Mexicans and a majority of them are here illegally and breaking the law. The idea of the "poor and huddled masses" no longer gives me the warm fuzzies like it use to.
Living here? Speak the language. Why is that so difficult to understand?

I agree with Jo. I was born in the USA but learned English primarily from my paternal grandparents, both of whom were born and educated in England. I took my first college degree from McGill University (the Royal Institute for the Advancement of Learning) in Montreal. I have no doubt that I speak English.
For the eleven years I have lived in Texas I have never once heard a single individual who is native to this region speak English.
What is spoken here might be described as "American" or "Southern" or perhaps, simply, "Texan" but certainly not English.

Wow! If anyone that comes to this country ought to speak the native language according to you. Then why are you speaking English. The Natives that lived in this continent spoke NOT ENGLISH, why didn't your ancestors teach you the dialects?? Because they did not care!! ...so there you go. Many businesses rather have patrons' money and labor than their linguistic abilities. Money and power (including politicians) don't care anymore if people speak English, they want their votes. Believe it or not, we are shifting again! As for me I can speak three languages and I'm ready for whatever. Are you? You better
Face it, you better learn Spanish at the very least least, there's nothing wrong with your brain, actually you would be exercising your other side of your brain. Have you notice that the minority is becoming the mayority?.............that's what Natives used to say
