Mr. Reddell -

First of all CNN sent a reporter to check out where Obama went to school in Indonesia. If you do a web search you will find their results. They concluded there was no basis for the rumor that Obama was Muslim.

Second, his mother was not muslim but in fact was more of an agnostic I guess you would say. I do not know about her parents but being from Kansas, I doubt they were Muslim.

When Obama began working with the Christian churches in Chicago, the church leaders suggested that he pick a church and so he picked the Trinity United Church of Christ. I'm sure that deciscion had a lot to do with the support that particular church was offering the community.

Logic would tell you that a child that attends schools run by Catholics or run by Muslims when he is between the ages of 6-10 (6-8 Muslim, 9-10 Catholic) and his mother did not push either Religion that he would follow the parents lead.

I read his book, dreams of my father, and came away with the impression that religion was not a major factor in his life until he was exposed to Christianity through his work as a community organizer. I could not tell you for sure how deep his Christian beleifs go any more that I could tell if you were a Christian or not. However you did say in a previous post:

Now before you go off on this, let me tell you I'm a strong supporter of social services. There are plenty of people that REALLY need help. What I'm not a supporter of is the system that allows people to defraud it.

Now whether you are Christian or not or whether I am Christian or not is really not important when it comes to social services and helping the less fortunate. However, love one another sure fits the bill here and isn't that a commandment Jesus gave in John 13:34-35

Sure there are a segment of the population that will abuse food stamps, or housing, etc etc. I wish I knew a fool-proof way to keep that from happening. Still I am not going to let children starve and I will write my congressman (email these days) about homeless vets and improving their lot.

Look at the name and it's meaning:

Barack is a Semitic word meaning "to bless" as a verb or "blessing" as a noun. In its Hebrew form, barak, it is found all through the Bible. It first occurs in Genesis 1:22: Now let us take the name "Hussein." It is from the Semitic word, hasan, meaning "good" or "handsome."

General Omar Bradley of World War II fame had semitic first name. Gen. John Abizaid was one of our generals in Iraq. Abizaid is an arabic name. Gen. George Joulwan, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander of Europe has an arabic name, Joulwan. An arabic name or a muslim name does not mean you are muslin any more than an Italian name or Hispanic name means you are Catholic. The Irish are divided amounst protestant and Catholic so to assume one way or the other would be a mistake of judgement.

Now if you will search for James Dobson Doesn't Speak for Me in your web browser, you will find a group founded by Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell. This is a pro-obama christian web site. Caldwell is the methodist minister that Officiated at Jenna Bush's wedding.

So Mr. Reddell, I cannot make up your mind for you as to whether or not Obama is a Muslim. I can tell you that even though McCain will tell you that he does not believe Obama is Muslim, there are those conservatives that will pay to keep that rumor alive as they see it as an advantage.

Just as those that claimed that McCain's adopted daughter was a 'black' love child back in 2000 when he ran against Bush, these are the same type that claim Obama is a Muslim. Neither story was or is true.

You have to decide for yourself. That is all I can say.
