Maybe if grownups would stop making every incident into some major prophetic omen of destruction and allow children a chance to make mistakes and learn from them, we would not have to see these types of articles in the paper. The school administration seemed to handle this perfectly but when you get media hype fueling small-town mentality, you can almost see the mob around the corner. I feel for this family and the child. This should have been a simple school administration incident without the wide media coverage.

I agree, the media can add hype to a situation. But I believe the young ladies family is who contacted the media. I do not think Athens ISD contacted the media. The family felt their daughter was attacked and they were going to back her, like most parents would. I feel for this girls family because they were going to great lengths to defend their daughter only to find out it was all a lie.
