Post Subject: ESD Board- Radio System Read Article
I support the new radio system 110%. It is designed around what is now an 'on fire' national standard for two-way communications to be used by our first responders called P25. P25 two-way radio networks are quickly covering all 50 states, the federal government is installing them, and they are also being installed in other countries. My point is that this brings East Texas into the NOW and allows interoperability for other fire departments, police, ANY AGENCY to come and use our system if needed.
To be fair- our company (Tyler based Burks GenCore Co., Inc.) builds software for these P25 networks and we install it all around the world for large entities like Motorola, State of Illinois, State of Virginia, and lots more. We have seen these P25 networks grow and work- very well. Yes, there are some issues with voice quality, but there are big$$ tasks forces working now to improve this rapidly.
Cost- yup, it is high. But one thing that makes P25 so neat is that users are NOT stuck with one manufacturer of radio! Competitive bidding works well in P25.
Bottom line- this IS the best thing for East Texas!
