Jennifer:

Being a teacher you know more thanever could. From what my kids tell me and what I see TAKS is the worse thing to happen to public school. The teachers are not allowed to teach anymore. Outrageous demands are put on you to teach TAKS and not the actual course.

Kids do have it harder than I did when I was in high school - I don't know exactly when that changed for the worse but it did.

What would be ideal is if all parents encouraged their child to go to school, to pay attention and excel. That is our role as parents. I certainly do not go around telling kids that they are stupid and to drop out of school but it gets back to personal responsibility. Our society has moved so far away from being accountable for our own actions.

I blame the lazy parents and the disgusting "Hollywood" community for doing this to our kids.

It is tough enough raising kids without the violent, immoral messages that slam kids daily through tv, music and movies.

The ironic part of all of this is that my daughter desperately wants to be a teacher. She sees the problems and actually wants to make a difference.
I don't doubt that she will.
