It is a harsh expression. Unfortunately it is exactly what has been happening for years in our public schools across the nation.

I still cannot accept the “dumbing down” phrase. Children today know more in elementary school than most of us did in middle school due to advancements in technology! We insist on “educating” our children through antiquated methods that was “good enough for us” when challenging technologies are presenting our children with “new” products that we cannot fully understand. Does it make sense to teach typing in a world where every small child is skillful at text messaging? Of course not and neither does it make sense to sit children in a classroom with only a goal of passing a state mandated test to satisfy whom? And then if they pass this test they are still labeled as attending an underachieving school by their community! Our children are not dumb nor do the masses refuse education; we need to look at those things that restrict learning and remove the barriers and let the teachers teach!
