Whoa! Don't point your finger at me. I am not the problem, Kevin. My two kids have gone through the public school system in Tyler and are at REL. I have seen first hand what happens at school and pushing these two schools together would create chaos for the kids and the teachers.

This country as a whole has continued to lower the standards so more and more kids will "pass" each year. It is ugly but true. I see parents letting their kids slide through with just the bare minimum to get through high school because they are lazy - not dumb, just lazy. They want instant gratification and they don't get it. They have to actually work for grades and some kids just give up and their parents allow it.

It is not my job to inspire the kids at John Tyler. I have my own children to inspire. REL has a lot of real problems to deal with so me and my husband work with our kids everyday to make sure their needs are met. I don't want anyone else, including you, to do my job as a parent. I don't believe in the mantra "It Takes A Village".

I expect high grades from my kids and I get them because we work with them everyday.

If the IB program isn't working at JTyler maybe it is because there are not enough students and parents that are willing to make the commitment to it. It is a tough program and if you can stick with it, the student will reap the benefits. It is unfortunate that it is not going to make it over there but it isn't because the kids are not inspired by me.

Don't you dare pin this problem on "people like me". That is bias and that is wrong.

The fact that you believe bringing JT and REL together would create a "dumbing down" event was the reason for my ire. When people read statements like that without qualifying the dumbing down effect, they tend to believe it is because of one school. I agree with you that there are problems in both schools as a parent whose children graduated from Lee and I myself graduated from JT. I find it very difficult to swallow a statement that generalizes a school.
