What a waste. Of course there are children who have difficulty learning through our standard practice and some will never achieve the level we set. But the characterization of “dumbing down” as a result of meshing the high schools is just wrong. It is that mindset the children at John Tyler have to live with from people with no understanding of what is going on at their school. How can we expect our children to be inspired to stay in school when people disclaim their education. It is bias and it is wrong. But now I believe Bill Kenney understands why there will never be one high school in the Rose City.

Whoa! Don't point your finger at me. I am not the problem, Kevin. My two kids have gone through the public school system in Tyler and are at REL. I have seen first hand what happens at school and pushing these two schools together would create chaos for the kids and the teachers.
This country as a whole has continued to lower the standards so more and more kids will "pass" each year. It is ugly but true. I see parents letting their kids slide through with just the bare minimum to get through high school because they are lazy - not dumb, just lazy. They want instant gratification and they don't get it. They have to actually work for grades and some kids just give up and their parents allow it.
It is not my job to inspire the kids at John Tyler. I have my own children to inspire. REL has a lot of real problems to deal with so me and my husband work with our kids everyday to make sure their needs are met. I don't want anyone else, including you, to do my job as a parent. I don't believe in the mantra "It Takes A Village".
I expect high grades from my kids and I get them because we work with them everyday.
If the IB program isn't working at JTyler maybe it is because there are not enough students and parents that are willing to make the commitment to it. It is a tough program and if you can stick with it, the student will reap the benefits. It is unfortunate that it is not going to make it over there but it isn't because the kids are not inspired by me.
Don't you dare pin this problem on "people like me". That is bias and that is wrong.

The only reason it would never happen Kevin is "Cause we ain't never done it that way before".
Freshmen and Sophomores as a majority don't drive. There number of kids driving from Noonday to JT would be minimal. Also, freshmen and sophomores don't play varsity football for the most part. Most of them are on 9th or JV teams. If a player had exceptional ability and could start on the varsity team, I'm certain that transportation to the other practice site could be arranged.
From an educational standpoint, and from a financial standpoint, this concept makes too much sense. This does not dumb-down anyone. It allows all students to have full access to the academic opportunities of a large 5A school--and it helps to eliminate the cultural separation that has burdened this great community for many years.
