Post Subject: One High School Read Article

I've recently heard people in this community talking about merging REL and JT into one school. The idea included making the JT campus a Freshman-Sophomore campus, and REL a Junior-Senior campus.

Seems that this would be a good idea on the surface. It would create some community unity instead of the "us vs them" mentality that often exists. It would make for some really strong athletic teams, and every student would have the chance to be in AP, IB, or whatever degree program they wanted. There would no longer be the need to provide "equality:.

Why wouldn't this work?

One high school? Unfortunately, that's the American way these days. Rather than reward the higher performing school, saddle them with the problems of the lower performing school and further dilute the educational experience for everyone. No wonder the private schools are bursting at the seams.

I don't think that merging the two schools would accomplish anything for the students. All it would do is create more tension and stress for students and teachers.

It falls into the mind set of "dumbing down America". We ought to be raising the bar not lowering it.
