An 18-year-old Tyler woman is in critical condition with a head injury following a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday night.

Sgt. Paul Robeson, with the Tyler Police Department, said the accident happened at 7:10 p.m. in the intersection of Fifth Street and Golden Road.

He said witnesses reported the white Pontiac Grand Am, driven by the injured woman, was headed west on Fifth Street and ran the red light at the intersection.

Her car was T-boned by an oncoming Hyundai Sonata traveling north on Golden Road. The Sonata had the green light, he said.

Robeson said the two crashed in the middle, and the Pontiac then hit a pole at the intersection

The Tyler Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to get her out of the car, and she was taken by ambulance to a Tyler hospital.

He said she is listed in critical condition.

The sun may have been a factor in the crash, blinding the woman and making it to where she could not see, Robeson said.
