Cause of Jacksonville fires still unknown
The cause of two recent fires at a Jacksonville residence was undetermined Wednesday after a canine unit and the state fire marshal’s office were brought in to assist with investigation.
Jacksonville Fire Department Capt. Ted Hunt said the first fire was reported at after 8 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Quevado Street.
He said there was heavy smoke and some fire damage to the house, but no one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
“We investigate all fires, and at the time, the (cause of the) first fire was undetermined. … There was not enough evidence,” he said.
Then the second fire occurred about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at the same location.

When fire personnel arrived on scene, the structure was engulfed in flames and most of the roof was gone, Hunt said.
He said eight fire fighters responded, and it took about 26 minutes to get the fire under control. He said the house was a total loss, and a vehicle in the carport was lost as well.
Hunt said the owner has another home in Tyler and has stayed at the Jacksonville home occasionally.
On Wednesday, he said a canine unit and the state fire marshal’s office was out at the scene to help investigate.
“Anytime you have a fire and you’re not sure what started it, you want to have additional resources to try to determine that, and a canine is one of those tools you can use,” Hunt said.
He said Wednesday that the investigation was concluded, and a cause was still undetermined.
