‘10 Most Wanted’ sex offender arrested
Staff Reports

A sex offender who had eluded authorities is back behind bars after he was arrested in a Longview soup kitchen Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Michael Wayne Hopson, 57, a Texas 10 Most Wanted sex offender, is now in custody after being arr- ested in Longview on Tuesday by DPS Criminal Investigations Division agents.

Hopson was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender in Anderson County and indecent exposure in Payne County, Okla.

“Hopson was arrested at approximately 12 p.m. Tuesday at a local soup kitchen in Longview and was taken into custody without incident,” the release stated.

Hopson’s criminal history includes multiple charges of indecent exposure and failure to register as a sex offender. This arrest was not a result of a tip and no reward will be paid.

DPS and other agencies have arrested nine Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders this year, and $10,000 in rewards have been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.

The cash rewards are funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division.
