Smith County probation officer arrested
A Smith County probation officer has been arrested following an investigation into allegations of injury to a child.

“Today at approximately 10:30 a.m., detectives from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Children’s Advocacy Center completed an investigation of injury to a child, a third-degree felony,” John Moore, the sheriff office’s spokesperson, said.

Moore said Rachelle Ann Hartgraves was arrested today at her place of employment, the Smith County Adult Probation Department on Elm Street.

“The arrest is the culmination of an investigation that was initiated in 2012 and was recently reinitiated and completed on March 12. The arrest warrant was issued by 114th State District Judge Christi Kennedy,” he said.

Bond has been set at $10,000. Mrs. Hartgraves was booked into the Smith County Jail but was released early this afternoon after posting bond.
