Gorman wins its first official chess tournament

Bishop T.K. Gorman Regional Catholic School had its first official U.S. Chess Federation tournament last month.
The Gorman team won with a score of 10, followed by Frankston ISD (9) and All Saints Episcopal School (5 1/2), according to information provided by the school.
In the amateur division, Gabriel Benedict won second place and Heather Schmitt won third place.
In the novice division, Emery Dubre took third place honors.
Other Gorman players who contributed to the school’s win included Andrew Carney, Armando Haro, Alonso Haro, Andrew Julian, Matthew McGehee and Scierra Waldron.
