New Chapel Hill man arrested for burglary
Staff Reports

Tyler police arrested a man accused of burglarizing the Army Navy Store on the 1200 block of South-Southeast Loop 323 on Wednesday night.

Two Tyler police motorcycle traffic officers were riding by the Army Navy Store when they heard an audible alarm coming from the business, according to a news release from the department.

The officers stopped to investigate and noticed a large hole had been cut into the back of the building.

While waiting for backup, the officers witnessed a man wearing black clothing leaving the woods to the north of the business and crossing across Loop 323, the release states.

Officers arrested the man, identified as Richard Moore, 20, of New Chapel Hill, and police said he confessed to breaking into the business.

Police said Moore was found in possession of a pair of gloves and a flashlight stolen from the business as well as a small ax allegedly used to cut through the wall.

Moore was taken to East Texas Medical Center to treat an unrelated cut on his leg.

Moore was then taken to Smith County Jail where he was booked for burglary of a building, a state jail felony. His bond was set at $5,000.
