Jacksonville to see new city website within near future
Jacksonville residents can expect a new city website that is more resourceful and user friendly, according to the city.
Geographical Information Systems coordinator Jordan Yutzy said the current website has not changed in years, and it's hard for residents to find information on it.
But the new website will have a completely different look that is "more modern" and "more up-to-date," he said. He said it includes an interactive calendar, where residents will see city meeting posts.
The city also plans to put Lake Jacksonville campground reservations online. Residents have had to make the reservations during business hours -- either by coming to the Public Works Building or giving their credit card number over the phone -- but the new website will allow them to do it at home or on their smartphone, city officials said.
Additionally, the new website will be detected on various mobile devices and will adjust accordingly to that particular screen, Yutzy said.
He said the city just started the process of getting the new website and expects it will take about three months to build the new one.
He said the color scheme has not yet been picked, and each city department will rewrite what that department does to ensure the new website is up-to-date.
Yutzy estimated the website will be switched over at the end of May or early June.
"Mainly everything has been handled electronically these days, and we try to stay current..." City Manager Mo Raissi said. Yutzy "has been looking at web designers and getting prices. He thought this was best for the citizens."
In the meantime, the city is inviting residents to submit photos for the website.
Yutzy said some photos may not make it to the new website's homepage but could go in a photo gallery.
"We want the community to show what makes Jacksonville Jacksonville," he said.
