Band and choir students from All Saints Episcopal School will travel to Ireland during spring break to perform and see the sights. This is the first time the two groups have joined for a trip.
This year, the band was interested in going on a trip, so they decided to travel together.
Ms. Furr said they will perform Americana in the form of jazz music and spirituals.
“We wanted to bring a little bit of America to Ireland and showcase some of our traditions,” said Ms. Furr, who is director of the middle and upper school choirs.
In addition to their performances, the students will march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Ms. Furr said organizers established the people's parade and 3,000 people from around the world will march in it.
The All Saints group will represent Texas by wearing green T-shirts with a Texas flag and the message, “Happy St. Patty's Day Y'all” and “Kiss me, I'm Texan.”
Ms. Furr said trips give students a broader perspective of the world.
“I like them to see other cultures, (and) get to know other people from other parts of the world,” she said.
The group will leave March 10 and return March 18. In addition to their performances, they will be sightseeing across the country.
