Organizers thank event sponsors

MANY THANKS
ROSES: To the committee and sponsors of the annual Brighter Future Symposium on Feb. 22. The dynamic presentation on “Building Better Brains through Movement had attendees “raving” as they left. Sponsors for the event included Brookshire Grocery Co., Genecov Group, Inc., Trinity Mother Frances, Charles Giglio Family, Bonnie and Rick Rayford, Classic Toyota, Regions Bank, Citizen’s First Bank, Perry Thompson Jr., Susan Robinson, Monica and Gary Penkilo, Carol and James Mazzu, Nita and Byron Meads and the UT Tyler Ornelas Center.

Smith County Champions for Children thanks all who are assisting in the education of adults about the developmental needs of children so they reach their full potential for successful learning.

GREAT ARTICLE
RAVES: I loved Steve Knight’s article on “Picking It Up.”

We live in Lindale and have lots of highway road frontage.

We pick up trash constantly. God created this beautiful Earth and I feel a real responsibility to keep it looking as good as I can. We live about two miles out and people stop in town at Sonic, McDonald’s and other places, eat and throw their trash out on our property. People who throw trash out have no pride in themselves. I cannot throw even a toothpick out.

Thank you so much for this article. I am sick and tired of cleaning up after so many beer-drinkers and other people who do not care about themselves and could care less about trying to keep God’s beautiful creation clean.

GOOD JOB, STEVE
RAVES: I read the article with awe by Steve Knight in Feb. 24 edition. I cringe when I see someone throw their trash out their car window or blow out of an open bed pickup. If you go to a lake, take the trash you brought with you out when you leave. If you have no self-respect, take your trash home and throw it in your yard — your neighbor might like it.

MORE PRAISE
RAVES: I agree with Steve Knight’s article in last Sunday’s paper. I live in Chandler and while it seems to be a very good gesture for all of the fishermen and a much safer way to have access to the river I just knew that some people would not respect the rights of others.

It is a shame that some choose to live as pigs and expect others to live that way. I believe that the city has an obligation to place conduct information signs within the parking areas along with trash cans and two portable bathrooms, with a warning that if such behavior persists then the city will have no choice but to close the area.
