Lindale man pleads guilty to 2012 bank robbery; gets 40-year sentence
A 43-year-old Lindale man pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated robbery in the Smith County 241st District Court and received a 40 year sentence, Smith County Assistant District Attorney Jason Parrish said.

Anthony Tamanda Rios entered an open plea, which means there was no agreement with the District Attorney’s Office. He had faced up to life in prison for the first degree felony and will be eligible for parole after he serves 20 years.

Rios robbed the Capital One Bank in Lindale in September 2012 of $2,500 and fled to the Philippines afterward, Parrish said. “His family members here saw him on television in footage of the bank robbery and talked him into turning himself in,” Parrish said.

Rios, who had spent most all of the money he received in the robbery, had run out of money and returned to Tyler after his mother paid for his plane ticket. Federal agents arrested him immediately, Parrish said.
