Plants in Tyler Rose Garden showing signs of early spring
Winter's doldrums gone at last, the gardens are showing all signs of spring.

Just a week ago, our gardens looked pretty dismal and finding a worthwhile picture for you was hard. This week, everything is beginning to pop. The pansies we planted last fall have had their little leaves curled up, trying to keep warm, and blooms have been scarce, but today was a different story.

Look at these little faces, so happy to be “smiling” into the sun. This winter has not been so cold, but we have had lots of gloomy days. Plants need sunshine and lots of it to bloom well. If you planted pansies and violas, give them a bit of fertilizer and watch them take off.

Look around and you will see signs of spring everywhere. Wild pear trees are blooming, redbuds are about to burst into bloom, bridal wreath are popping, birds are singing and building nests. Spring is in the air, February or not, and finding blooms is not the problem now. Deciding which ones to show you will be the problem now.

Please pick a beautiful spring day and go to the Tyler Rose Garden to check out the IDEA, Heritage, Shade and Sunshine gardens. Take a picnic and enjoy watching spring unfold all her beauty. The roses aren't blooming yet, but many of them are budding out, so it won't be long. Spring is coming early this year again.
