P.M. UPDATE: Marvin United Methodist Church pastor intends to run for Tyler ISD post
PASTOR INTENDS TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD POST
An associate pastor at Marvin United Methodist Church has filed paperwork to run for a seat on the Tyler ISD school board. The Rev. Dr. Marty Dunbar will run for the District 6 seat currently held by school board president Michelle Carr. There was no word yet earlier this afternoon on whether Mrs. Carr planned to file for re-election to her seat. Candidates have until March 1 to file for a place on the May 11 ballot in school and city elections. Check out Emily Guevara's story in tomorrow's Tyler Morning Telegraph for more details on that race.
SHOOTING SPREE IN CALIFORNIA
In national news, a shooting spree early this morning has left three people dead and two others injured in Orange County. According to the Associated Press, the search for the gunman ended when he shot himself to death in a stolen car as police closed in. The motive is still unclear and it's also unclear if the victims knew each other or the shooter. Authorities were processing six crime scenes across the county.
CLINTON TO GO ON HIGH-PAYING LECTURE CIRCUIT
And the Associated Press reports that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will give paid speeches now that she's left her position. The Manhattan-based Harry Walker Agency says on its website that Clinton has joined it exclusively for her future speaking engagements. The agency represents other high-profile figures who give paid speeches, including former president Bill Clinton, former Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan and Bono of the band U2. According to the AP, it is not uncommon for former public figures to join the speech circuit after leaving office.
