Perry reappoints Garrett to SFA regents board

Gov. Rick Perry reappointed Tyler resident Bob Garrett to the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents. His term will expire Jan. 31, 2019.

Garrett is president and CEO of the Fair Oil Co. of Texas and Fair Management Co., according to a governor’s office news release.

He is chairman of the Tyler Development Code Committee, vice president of the R.W. Fair Foundation, and board member of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, The Salvation Army of Tyler and T.B. Butler Publishing Co.

He also is past president of the Texas Association of Builders and Tyler Area Builders Association, past state representative of the National Association of Home Builders, and past board member and past treasurer of the Tyler Economic Development Council, according to the news release.

Garrett received a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Tyler.

Perry also appointed David Alders, of Nacogdoches, and Barry Nelson, of Dallas, to the board. These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
