Pilot slated to speak at women's group event
Staff Reports

The Tyler branch of American Association of University Women presents Capt. Malinda Hammond, C-130 Hercules pilot, as keynote speaker for this year's Expanding Your Horizons event at The University of Texas at Tyler on Feb. 23.

The event is designed for middle school girls. The girls will interact with student and faculty role models and participate in hands-on workshops.

“Capt. Hammond began flying at the age of 15, and loves flying the C-130 Hercules.” reads the written release. “What she likes most is 'flying the transport low and slow and air dropping troops and equipment.'”

She was deployed to Afghanistan with the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, Bagram Air Base.

The event will be held from 8:15 a.m. to noon in The University of Texas at Tyler Ballroom.
