Landmen association presents awards at annual banquet

Will A. Knight received the President's Award at the annual awards banquet for East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen held at Hollytree Country Club.
Knight, of Marshall, received the award for his time and contributions to the association. He is a partner with his son, Scott Knight, practicing oil and gas law from their home in Kimble County. After graduating from Baylor University School of Law, he was employed by Humble Oil & Refining Co. and Southern Union Gas Co. Legal Department.
Marc Morrison, C.P.L., was awarded the Brantley Jackson Award for his contributions and support for the landmen profession. In addition to his past service as director, officer and president, he has also been its representative for the past three years at the Texas Alliance of Landmen Associations meetings in Austin.
Celia C. Flowers, partner at Flowers Davis, P.L.L.C. was presented the Pioneer Award for her many years of dedication to the land profession. After graduating from law school in 1990, she began private practice in civil litigation with an emphasis on oil and gas matters. Prior to law school, she was a petroleum landman for 10 years. She is board certified in oil and gas and litigates contract matters for oil and gas clients. She is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and serves on the Oil and Gas Council for the State Bar of Texas.
Robert N. Bergfeld Jr., partner at Bergfeld Land & Mineral Group, was honored as past president. He has served on the board of directors, as well as on the education and membership committees.

DESIGNATION
Thomas G. Prothro, managing partner of Prothro, Wilhelmi and Co. PLLC, earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) professional designation from the Richard D. Irwin Graduate School of The American College. The CAP program provides professionals in the nonprofit and financial services fields with the tools needed to help clients reach their charitable giving objectives, while also helping them meet their estate planning and wealth management goals. Prothro founded the CPA firm in 1992. His practice includes financial statement audits of businesses, not-for-profits and other entities. He works with individuals, corporations, partnerships and fiduciaries in preparation of income tax returns and related planning. He also provides computer hardware and software consulting services. Prothro is a member of several national, state and local organizations. In 2009, Gov. Rick Perry appointed Prothro to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for a six-year term.

SESSION
The Tyler Office of Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation, is hosting “New Rules Governing Examination by a Treating Doctor after a Designated Doctor Examination” on Thursday. ACCREDITED
East Texas Medical Center Tyler was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) at the ETMC Olympic Plaza location as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The ETMC South Broadway CT also is accredited.

Austin Bank announced the recipients of the 2012 Community Involvement Award, which honors bank employees who volunteer. Debbie Finley, Debbie Braune and Brenda Williams were honored at the Austin Bank Board of Directors meeting on Feb. 12 in Jacksonville. The recipients receive $500 and another $500 was donated to an organization they serve.
Ms. Finley, customer service representative, was selected for her work with the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She joined Austin Bank in 2009, working at its Troup branch before moving to the south Tyler location. She is a board member of the Tyler Civic Chorale.
Ms. Braune, vice president/risk management and CRA officer, and Ms. Williams, senior vice president/senior project manager, were recognized for their volunteer service with Gateway to Hope. Ms. Braune, of Whitehouse, has been with Austin Bank for more than 21 years. She has worked as bookkeeping clerk, teller, loan secretary and loan officer. Ms. Williams, of Flint, has been with the bank for more than 18 years, as manager of the Central Loan Document department, compliance officer, loan review officer and a loan officer. She also has volunteered with the American Business Woman's Association, the Circle of 10, Habitat for Humanity and Boy Scouts of America.

Express Employment Professionals, a staffing company, announced that franchisees generated more than $2.3 billion in sales in 2012, up 10 percent from a record $2.1 billion in 2011. Additionally, since 2009, Express franchisee's temporary staffing sales are up 101 percent as staffing companies have become a significant driver of the nation's job growth, according to a statement.
“The company's ongoing rapid growth is indicative of a fundamental shift in hiring practices as employers increasingly rely on temporary workers for flexible staffing solutions that can respond to real-time market conditions,” Rocky Gill, franchisee of the Tyler Express Employment Professionals office, said.
In 2012, Express helped more than 367,000 workers find employment, up from 341,000 the year before. Express anticipates growth of 10 percent in 2013 based on continued demand for temporary workers, the report states.
