Tyler man gets 18 years for intoxication manslaughter
Staff Reports

A Smith County judge sentenced a Tyler man Thursday to 18 years in prison for hitting and killing a woman in a head-on collision in May.

Dallas Youmans, 22, will serve at least nine years for the charge of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, a second-degree felony, Smith County Assistant District Attorney Jason Parrish said.

Youmans pleaded guilty before Judge Jack Skeen Jr. in the 241st District Court on Thursday.

Youmans, who was intoxicated, hit Tara Smith, 36, in a head-on collision at the intersection of Paluxy and Cumberland Road on May 9, Parrish said.

The speed limit in the area was 55 mph, and police could find no skid marks at the scene, Parrish said. “He didn’t slow down,” Parrish said of the defendant.
