3 charged with injury to child in Van Zandt County
There Emory residents remained in the Van Zandt County Jail Tuesday afternoon, accused of causing injury to an infant.
Child Protective Services called the sheriff's office to a home near Grand Saline on Jan. 31 for alleged child abuse, said Maria Rongel, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
Ms. Rongel said a 2-month-old boy was life-flighted to Children's Medical Center in Dallas for his injuries and released on Feb. 3.
The baby had at least 23 fractures to his ribs, three cranial fractures, two fractured arms and a fractured left femur, said Shari Pulliam, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Family Protective Services.
“That's a lot of injuries on a little bitty baby that age,” she said.

The little boy is doing well, and doctors said his prognosis looks good, Ms. Pulliam said.
The sheriff's office arrested 19-year-old Kayla Fountain, 21-year-old Sean Alsip and 40-year-old Lejunana Alisp and charged them with first-degree felony injury to a child. Each is being held on a $500,000 bond, she said.
Ms. Rongel declined to comment on the nature of the child's injuries and said the department would not issue mug shots because the investigation is ongoing. CPS has an open investigation as well.
“We have the child safe now,” Ms. Pulliam said. “That is our main concern.”
