Ten Commandments don't ban guns or self-defense
I feel that I must respond to a recent letter about whether self-defense (with guns) is a “God-given” right. The 10 Commandments state “thou shall not commit murder,” not “kill.” If it were not for the men and women with guns, we would still be bowing to the queen of England. If we were not forced to kill, we would be ground under the heels of Adolph Hitler and Emperor Hirohito.

GUN CONTROL
Should there be any limit on gun proliferation?

Gun mongers such as Wayne LaPierre, National Gun Association, and others of his ilk would say emphatically “no.”

For arguments sake, let's say gun owners should have unlimited access to weapons to protect themselves from the mean ol' federals intent upon seizing their weapons.

How many guns does Wayne LaPierre need? It doesn't matter. Let's allow him more.

How about a couple of Browning Automatic Rifles, Thompson sub-machine guns, and a few burp guns?

Let's throw in a couple of machine guns with sand bag emplacements on Mr. LaPierre's front lawn.

We're not through. In the back yard Wayne could have four mortars so he can fire in any direction. (Shades of Gen. Chesty Puller U.S.M.C., circa 1951 Korea)

How about a 105mm Howitzer cannon? What the heck, give Wayne a 155 mm.

Now surely Monsieur Pierre would be ready to face the 1st Marine Division when it arrives, right?

Wrong?

Let imaginations run berserk. An armored truck with loud speakers arrives and makes the following pronouncement, “Mr. Wayne LaPierre, surrender your weapons and come out with your hands up. An armed drone will arrive in five minutes. That is all.”

And the armored truck departs. What is the moral of this story?

No matter how well armed any citizen or group of citizens may be they will always be outgunned by the finest fighting force the world has ever known.

ALTERNATIVE CURES
I find fault with your recent editorial about alternate cures. Many of these alternate cures actually do better and are safer than many conventional medicines. I use ginkgo biloba and I can tell it helps my memory.

There should be safer and more natural treatments to cure cancer than what is offered by conventional medicine today. In many cases, the cure is worse than the disease.

The American Medical Association seems to only want to use only surgery, radiation and chemotherapy only for cancer and I have heard if some doctor cures cancer by any other method, he is classed as a quack and many even go to the penitentiary.

BOY SCOUTS
I would like to say how important it is for our Boy Scouts of America to refuse to bow to pressure from homosexual groups. The Boy Scouts of America is an excellent organization that teaches young boys morals, character, honesty and leadership. My son is an Eagle Scout and he has turned out to be an upstanding citizen who works hard, goes to church, and is sensitive to others needs.

Our country is in moral decay because we have not upheld the sanctity of family life in general. Our young boys will not get the teaching that the Boy Scouts have instilled in them over the years if they allow homosexuals to be leaders.

I am opposed to this action and pray that this outstanding organization will stand strong on their moral values and resist the pressure that is being put on them to change their policy to allow homosexuals become leaders.
