Steph F. Austin's Cecil to discuss 'secrets' of Caddo pottery

Dr. Leslie G. Cecil, assistant professor of anthropology at Stephen F. Austin State University, will discuss how the Caddo made their pottery as well as the techniques used by archaeologists to “discover” their hidden secrets, the announcement said.
“Much of the information that we know about how the Caddo made their pottery comes from the shape of the vessel and the decoration on it,” the announcement said.
The fee is $2 and includes a tour of the Caddo Mounds site. Seating is limited.
The Caddo Mounds State Historic Site is at 1649 Texas Highway 21 West, near Alto. A Texas Historical Commission property, the site houses is the remains of a large village and religious center built by a group of Caddo Indians more than 1,200 years ago on the prairie overlooking the Neches River. The site presents the culture and customs of the Caddo people through exhibits, displays and preserved burial and ceremonial mounds.
