Elder David Nelson
Services for Elder David Nelson, 91, Fort Worth, formerly of Tyler, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Porter’s Chapel Church Of God In Christ with Bishop C.F. Porter officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co., Tyler.

Mr. Nelson died Feb. 6, 2013, in Fort Worth.

He was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Dresden and attended Pellum High School. He was a longtime resident of Tyler and a retired grocery store manager and farmer. He was a member of Porter’s Chapel COGIC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua and Pearl Nelson; wife, Juanita Nelson; daughters, Pearl Johnson and Celestine Foster; sons, Dan Nelson, James Warren Nelson and Robert Joshua Nelson; brothers, Waymon Nelson and Dan Nelson; and two sisters.

Survivors include sons, Rickey and Shekethia Nelson, Charles Nelson and David Nelson, all of Tyler, and Paul and Kassandra Nelson, Dallas; daughters, Christine and Johnny Jackson, Fort Worth, Arnita and George Scott, Waco, Barbara and Joe Banks, Tyler, Gwendolyn and Bishop CF Porter, Tyler, and Mary and Greg Ward, Tyler; 51 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David D. Nelson III, Earnest Ward Jr., Michael Nelson, Donald Nelson, Rodrick Hawkins and Cedrick Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Nelson, Walter Johnson Jr., Greg Ward, Donnie and Ronnie Mannings and Charles Stewart.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
