Crimestoppers tip leads to arrest of robbery suspect
A Crimestoppers tip led Tyler police and U.S. Marshals to a man wanted for his role in an armed robbery in January.

Don Martin, Tyler Police public information officer, said the Tyler Police Department received a Smith County Crime Stopper tip Thursday on the whereabouts of Ashad Rael Coats, 25.

Martin said Tyler detectives, along with the U.S. Marshal agents, located and arrested Coats at Town Park Apartments, 2202 WNW Loop 323.

Coats had been sought since the January 16 robbery of the Food Fast - Exxon, located at 4201 University Blvd.

After the robbery, one of the suspects shot himself in the leg while trying to evade police.

Coats remains jailed on bonds totaling $150,000 for the charges of engaging in organized criminal activity and burglary of a vehicle.
