MIDDAY UPDATE: Smith County hires new Public Information Officer
SMITH COUNTY HIRES NEW PIO
Today the Smith County Sheriff's Office announced the hiring of John Moore as its new Public Information Officer. Moore is expected to join the department later this month. Moore, of Whitehouse, has served as the public information officer for Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics for the past 13 years and previously was Director of Marketing for Stewart Regional Blood Center. For 10 years, he was the host of KNUE Radio's morning show, and before that was a reporter and the sports director for KTBB Radio. Congratulations to John and the sheriff's department.
BROOK HILL SCHOOL BUILDING RESIDENTS HALL
Brook Hill School is building a new 17,000-plus square foot residential hall for students. The house will have ten residential suites, each accommodating four students, with every suite having its own sitting area, bathroom with double showers and vanities, also two bedrooms, each with desk, wardrobe, double book shelf system, and beds with reading sconce lighting. Downstairs residents will enjoy a large kitchen with utility-island and an additional attached walk-in pantry containing individual food lockers. The new residence hall is expected to be open in the fall of this year.
FLACCO LOOKS FOR BIG PAYDAY
It's a good thing that Joe Flacco has made himself into an "elite" (and soon to be very highly-paid) quarterback, because the Baltimore Ravens' signal-caller and Super Bowl MVP needs a lot of work as a special teams coach. With four seconds left in Super Bowl XLVII, San Francisco 49ers return man Ted Ginn, Jr. stood ready to accept a free kick from punter Sam Koch. The only chance the Ravens had to lose the Super Bowl was if Ginn returned the kick for a touchdown. Yahoo sports reports today that Flacco told his teammates on the sideline to go onto the field and tackle Ginn if the speedster got beyond the Ravens' return coverage team. Of course, coming from the sideline to tackle someone is against the rules. Ginn returned the ball 31 yards from the San Francisco 19-yard line to midfield, saving referee Jerome Boger (who did not, under any circumstances, have a great Super Bowl himself) from having to deal with what would have been the weirdest play in Super Bowl history.
