Leadership Tyler pays tribute to a fallen member
Leadership Tyler alumni on Tuesday remembered one of their own during the organization’s annual homecoming luncheon.
Members paid tribute to Jason Albright, 33, a Class 25 member, who was one of two people killed in a traffic accident on Jan. 18, while trying to help another motorist on Texas Highway 31 near Kilgore.
“I remember that evening well,” Tim Connor, a luncheon speaker, said about hearing the news of Albright’s death. “The call was brief and painful.
“While we lost a friend that day … his wife lost a husband … and a daughter lost a father.”
Connor said Albright’s work as a Leadership Tyler board member underscored his passion of helping others.
“Jason’s life was characterized by serving others,” he said. “Leadership Tyler was a great fit for Jason.”
Leadership Tyler officials at the luncheon, held at Rose Heights Church, announced that his widow, Erin, has been offered a two-year scholarship to Oklahoma Wesleyan University to work on a master’s degree, where Albright was an adjunct professor.

In addition, that university will have a full four-year scholarship waiting for the couple’s daughter, Emily, who is a baby.

In other luncheon events, Donna Spann was introduced as the recipient of the Leadership Tyler 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award.
“I’m very humbled,” Ms. Spann, a Class 14 member, said of the award. “I’m very, very grateful. I’m deeply touched, and my heart is moved.”
Ms. Spann has served on the Leadership Tyler board and was involved in fine-tuning the organization’s core program.
“Donna has an extensive history in community service, public relations and business and nonprofit leadership in Tyler,” a bio in the luncheon’s program read.
Leadership Tyler officials also announced that a new leadership initiative in the works would be named Tyler CAT 100, whose goal will be to focus on community issues and leadership mentoring.
Leadership Tyler has partnered with the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University to develop the program, seen as an extension of the existing core program.
