Jamie Womack, Texas AFT East Texas lead organizer, said parents, teachers, retirees and community leaders are invited to join the local group traveling to the event.
Ms. Womack said appointments have been made to speak with state Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, and state Rep. Matt Schaefer, R-Tyler.
However, she said they can make additional appointments if East Texans represented by other legislators decide to go.
If the legislators are called in to meetings that day, the group will speak with representatives from their offices, she said.
The group will leave Tyler about 6 a.m. on March 11 on a chartered bus. When they arrive at the Capitol, attendees should have time to watch committee meetings or the House or Senate in session before a noon lunch on the South Lawn, the Texas AFT rally and visits with legislators.
Those interested in traveling with the group need to reserve a space by calling 903-595-6651 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. It requires a deposit of $20 by cash or check to reserve a spot, which will be returned the day of the event.
