PATH seeks to put 'soup' in Super Bowl
Staff Reports

Local nonprofit People Attempting to Help kicked off its annual Souper Bowl soup drive with a special guest, NFL Green Bay Packers’ Graham Harrell.

“Anything we can do to give back to the community is great,” he said at the press conference at Moore Middle School. “I was happy to have the opportunity to encourage these kids. I’m impressed with what they’re doing here.”

The students at Moore Middle School took the kick-off seriously. Students in three classes each brought more than 100 cans, while two sixth-graders each brought more than 40 cans.

“It’s really touched my heart,” principal Claude Lane said.

The drive will last throughout the month of February. Last year’s drive raised more than 47,900 pound of food.

At the end of the drive, the organization will give out the congregational MVP award and the community MVP award. Last year’s winners were Pollard United Methodist Church and Jack Elementary School.
